In this article, we will be more focusing on understanding questions based on Age problem and tricks to solve a question in less time. In this type of questions, we need to evaluate an equation and using that equation we end up with the answer.
Let’s get into the basic concepts of this type of problems
Q. A man is 24 years older than his son. In two years, his age will be twice the age of his son. The present age of his son is:
Present:
Suppose Son’s Age be = x
His Father Age = x + 24
Future:
After 2 years his age becomes two times his son’s age
Son’s Age = x + 2
Father’s Age = 2* Son’s Age After two years = 2(x+2)
We can balance his father’s present age with the future by simply adding 2 years in it
Present Age + 2 = Future Age
x+24+2 = 2(x+2)
x+26 = 2x +4
26-4 = 2x – x
22 = x
So, his son’s present age is 22.
Q. Present ages of Sameer and Anand are in the ratio of 5 : 4 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio of their ages will become 11 : 9 respectively. What is Anand’s present age in years?
Present Ages:
Sameer’s Age = 5x
Anand’s Age = 4x
which gives 5x/4x
Future Age:
Sameer’s Age = 11x
Anand’s Age = 9x
which gives 11x/9x
To Balance these, we have to add 3 years in the present age
Present Age + 3 = Future Age
(5x +3)/(4x + 3) =11x/9x
(5x +3)/(4x + 3) =11/9
9(5x +3)= 11(4x + 3)
45x+27 = 44x +33
45x -44x = 33- 27
x =6
Present Age of Anand = 4*6 = 24
